Questions & Answers with Stephanie

Name: Stephanie Ng
Age:   25
Belt:    Black belt 4th dan

How long have you been practicing Taekwondo?

  • Started in 1990 (18 years)

What do you love most about Taekwondo?

  • Fighting! Training and preparing towards a competition with supportive coaches and friends who picks you up when you’re down. And definitely travelling!

How long have you been involved in competitive sparring?

  • My first (state) competition was at the end of 1990. I was 14 when I experienced my first international competition – my love for the sport grew from there.

Career Highlights:

  • 2004 British Open, London
  • 2005 World Championships, Spain
    • The unforgettable training (especially plyometrics at the beach!) towards this competition is one of my highlights. Even though it was an individual sport we trained like a team and drove each other to perform our best.
  • 2005 - 6 month training camp at National Taiwan College of Physical Education
    • Being overseas in a foreign country and unable to speak to the local language was a challenge. But training twice a day without my coaches and team-mates was a greater challenge. Living and training with full time athletes who compete for a living was an eye-opening experience. Everything I learnt from my coaches was put in perspective and it wasn’t until then that I had grown and matured as a fighter.

Hero

  • Alf, Andy, Lydia, Bernie and Mr. Rozinszky – who have ALWAYS been there to guide, support and inspire me and many others.
