Club History The Melbourne Taekwondo Centre (MTC) was founded in 1963 by Mr Jack Rozinszky and is one of the oldest Taekwondo clubs in Australia. Mr Jack Rozinszky, Chief Instructor and now a 9th Dan Grand Master, was the first Australian to train in an elite Korean gymnasium, the Ji Do Kwan School in Korea. While there in 1967, he successfully graded for and became the first Australian to receive a 1st Dan Black Belt in Ji Do Kwan. Ji Do Kwan (or Wisdom Way School) is the style of Taekwondo that we practice today. Prior to this, Mr Rozinszky had conducted martial arts classes in his own club in Melbourne, as early as 1963. In September 2006, Mr Rozinszky was conferred with his 9th Dan Grand Master certificate in Ji Do Kwan making him the highest-ranking non-Korean Taekwondo exponent in Australia. He is also ranked 8th Dan by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). Since 1975 Australia has been sending teams to compete world wide, including World Championships, Asian Championships, Olympic Games and other invitational tournaments. MTC has been represented on Australian National teams every year since 1979. Proudly, MTC is able to boast that, not only have our members won numerous National Titles but also many medals at international tournaments, including the World Cup, World Championships and Olympic Games. With a current membership in excess of 2000 students, MTC has its headquarters in Glen Waverley with branches in Bendigo, Berwick, Camberwell, Dandenong, Doncaster, Eltham, Heathcote, Kew, Kinglake, Knox, Malvern, Port Phillip, Rowville and Whittlesea as well as university clubs at Deakin University (Burwood campus) and Swinburne University (Hawthorn campus). |
